Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg
Scholar, Author and Poet
Our Shabbat Guest
June 29-30, 2018

The Adult Education committee is happy to announce a special Shabbat opportunity with Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, Ph.D., the 2009-13 Kansas Poet Laureate and author of more than 20 books of poetry, fiction, memoirs and anthologies, including, her most recent publication, Miriam’s Well: A Modern Day Exodus.

“This page-turning, big hearted, modernday retelling of the Exodus (complete with Miriam’s recipes) is a compelling story of an unforgettable woman…Miriam wanders the political and spiritual desert of a changing America, driven by her sense of purpose but searching for her place and her people. As she seeks the promised land, she shows her people, and eventually herself, how to turn the chaos and despair of our times into music, meals, and miracles.”

Caryn will share readings from Miriam’s Well during Friday evening worship services. At 10:30 am on Shabbat morning, Caryn will lead a workshop on “Writing the Tree of Life: Modern Midrash and Personal Mythology to Re-Vision Our Lives.” Anyone interested in cooking up a few of Miriam’s recipes to serve that weekend, please contact Laurie Epstein or Marcy Price.

Based just south of Lawrence, Kansas, Caryn “roams the prairie“ offering workshops, readings, performance, and classes in venues throughout the US. We welcome all interested members to join us for an enriching and inspiring summer Shabbat with poet, writer and transformative language artist, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg. Check out her website,
