Empowerment! Knowledge! Self-Confidence!
Self defense and self protection are an important priority for women. The most common crime to happen to a woman is rape. Assault on women is also a common crime because assailants assume women will be more passive and will not fight back; this has to do with stereotypes of women. The best way for women to fight back against crime is to prevent it from happening by avoiding being alone or being in badly lit areas. However, getting into such situations is sometimes inevitable.
In light of these facts, Temple B’nai Israel is offering a Women’s Self Defense course. Each session builds on the previous weeks, but if you cannot make all four, participation is still encouraged. Students must be at least 13 years old-no maximum age. It’s open to non – Temple members, too – so tell a friend!
The course is $160 for all four sessions, or $80 to attend just sessions 1 & 2. A mouth guard & notebook will be provided and full scholarship available for Temple girls ages 13-18 accompanied by a paying adult Temple member. (This special offer is NOT available to non – Temple members) Instruction Provided by American Okinawan Karate Academy LLC, Veronica Sandubrae (First Degree Black Belt)
